Godfrey Calvin Magila (born February 29, 1992) is a prominent Tanzanian software engineer, cybersecurity expert, and entrepreneur. He is best known as the founder and Global CEO of Magilatech, a multinational software development and security auditing company.
Early Life & Education
- Background: Born in Mbeya and raised in Dar es Salaam. He faced immense childhood adversity, losing his parents at age six. He was raised by his aunt and uncle, who also tragically passed away during his late teens.
- Learning to Code: He discovered his passion for technology by dismantling household electronics and visiting local internet cafés with a small weekly allowance from his aunt. He is entirely self-taught in computer programming.
- Higher Education: He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Finance and Accounting. He financed his university upkeep through a government scholarship and by doing freelance software development projects.

- The Breakthrough: In 2011, Magila entered and won the first nationwide Tanzania Hackathon Programming Challenge hosted by the Tanzania Commission for Science and Technology (COSTECH). The win secured him crucial business mentorship.
- Company Growth: In 2012, with the support of the Dar Teknohama Business Incubator (DTBi), he officially registered Magilatech. The company has expanded from a local startup into a high-growth multinational tech enterprise. It operates out of its global strategic headquarters in Dubai, alongside physical offices in Tanzania and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

- Tigobackup: A widely successful mobile anti-theft and data backup application that helped thousands of users recover lost or stolen devices.
